Dear diary, My husband does not speak to me he does not see me. I am all alone behind in the shadows seeing only the aftermath of his sins. What has made him change so much? I mean so little to him now and his throne might as well be his wife. I want to join those whom have died under my husband’s hands to repent for the sins he has committed. I have nothing now only this miserable existence in this world of chaos. My death should open the eyes of my husband. Blood will have blood this is certainly true. Hell is Heaven. Fie my lord, fie! Let Banquo, Lady Macduff and her children sleep in peace-Duncan is in Heaven. Please keep Fleance safe! TOP OF PAGE

Dear diary, My hands are stained with blood why can’t they be washed off? It should be easily washed off with water yet it stays on my hand staining the things I touch. My reeks of the smell of blood why is this so? Will all the perfumes of Arabia not be able to sweeten these hands? Is this the blood of those my husband has killed? So innocent and red not tainted with black by darkness. Ohh, to think my husband kills friendship for power. The righteous man, Banquo, killed by his best friend. I must sleep to rid me of these thoughts. To bed. TOP OF PAGE

Dear diary, Ohhhhh… I am feeling extremely depressed. More and more of our thanes are leaving us. I heard that my husband is furious. I really regret telling Macbeth to murder Duncan!!! I was too eager to be queen and gain power. Why did I want more when everything was fine then? Why did I have to persuade my husband to do such evil deeds why? Why? TOP OF PAGE

Dear diary, Another day has passed with more people dying. I seriously do not have any idea as to what my husband is doing! I am starting to regret persuading him to murder Duncan. He has turned into a monster and it is all my fault!!! Where has that loving husband gone? My friends, acquaintances killed without me knowing. Oh, Lady Macduff, who killed you my good friend?? Dear diary, I had planned to visit Lady Macduff and her children, only to find guards patrolling the castle. I asked them what happened and they told my that everyone in the castle was killed not even the servants were spared. It was such a savage murder! I could only suspect one person-my husband. Why must Lady Macduff and her adorable children be involved in this? Is this retribution for killing King Duncan? I have also heard rumours that many people were being slaughtered for no reason. I wonder where my husband is? What is he doing? I miss him… He does not even talk to me anymore… TOP OF PAGE

Dear diary, The banquet was expected to be a very joyous one but my husband’s strange behaviour has spoiled the atmosphere, forcing all the lords and nobles to leave eventually. I am burning with curiosity. Why did Macbeth hit the ground in fear and yell at something near his table during the banquet? What exactly is that “thing”? Could it be Duncan’s spirit, which he saw? He probably have not gotten over his fear and have been having hallucinations recently. However, there is more than to meet the eye. For these few days, Macbeth and I have been very distant in our thoughts, as if he were living in another world. Why do I keep on getting the feeling that he is hiding something from me? During the banquet, I picked up some clues. Macbeth appears to be talking to a person, unknown to others’ sight. I swear that I heard him mentioning the gory locks with my very own ears. Bloody hair? Who would have their hair in such condition during the banquet? Could it be a ghost that he had seen? It may be Duncan’s spirit or someone’s else. I remember him saying weird things about Banquo and Fleance before the banquet. He is fearful of them and then he said, “Be innocent of the knowledge, dearest chuck, Till thou applaud the deed.” Oh dear! Could it be one of them or both of them he killed?! Anyway, he has been having a lot of hallucinations and a terrible lack of rest. I am utterly worried about his health. Do bless him. TOP OF PAGE

Dear diary, Days have passed after Macbeth’s coronation, but we are not as happy as we thought we would be or maybe not even as happy as we were in the past. Somehow, we seem to have lost something. It is none other than our close relationship. We have been very distant from each other recently and Macbeth seems to be living in his own world. He hardly talks to me and I cannot get through his mind either. He mentioned that his mind is full of scorpions. I think I understand the torment he has been through. Speaking of that, I am also reminded of some weird things he said. “Thou know’st that Banquo and Fleance lives……There’s comfort yet: they are assailable” I feel that he is hinting to me something but what exactly is he trying to say? Has it got anything to do with Banquo and Fleance? To make matters worse, he told me to be innocent of the knowledge. I feel so vexed, thinking that Macbeth is up to something but wouldn’t let me know. Suddenly, I miss the past and those happy times when Macbeth and I would share moments of laughter together. Dear diary, The murder of Duncan has been carried out with a bit of flaws. At first, Macbeth shocked me by telling me that he did not want to carry on with the plan, considering the fact that Duncan has been such a good and wise king. Fortunately, my persuasion and tears worked on him. I knew that he would be too kind-hearted to be able to do such a thing alone. But a little words to talk him round will do. After that, I tried to murder Duncan. However, his resemblance of my well-respected father while he is sleeping, puts me off. I could not bear to lay my hands on him at that point of time. Then, Macbeth went to his room and carried out the plan! He came back, holding the blood-stained dagger and I was dumbfounded. How could he have done such a careless and foolish thing?! This could lead to his downfall! I could tell that he was overcome with fear and so, I helped him finish up the rest of the details. Both our hands are dirtied with blood but a little water clears us of this deed. How easy it is then! And so, that is all for the day. It has been accomplished. Macbeth seems disorientated, dazed and lost in his thoughts now but I am sure he will be fine soon. We are yet but young in deed. TOP OF PAGE

Dear diary, Here I stand, on the top of the castle, watching the day of Duncan’s stay in our castle arrive before my very own eyes. The sun has set. I believe that this is the most ideal time to strike. His carriage is about to reach the castle. However, before this, I would like to call on evil spirits that tend on mortal thoughts to unsex me here. Fill me, from the crown to the toe, top-full of direst cruelty! Stop up th’ access and passage to remorse! Come to my woman’s breasts and take my milk for gall, you murdering ministers! Today, I will not let anything get into my way and I am very determined to carry out my actions even if it means betraying my own conscience! My husband has to be king at all cost! May today’s plan be carried out smoothly without any blunders! Alright, I believe that I am ready now. O! Never shall sun that morrow see TOP OF PAGE

Dear diary, Today, my beloved husband sent me a letter, containing astonishing news. Upon reading the letter, I am stunned. I can still remember every single details vividly. However, here is the most exciting part in the letter, “…the King, who hailed me Thane of Cawdor – by which title, before, these weird sisters saluted me; and referred me to the coming on of time, with ‘Hail, King that shalt be!’…” Three witches actually approached him, telling him that he would be king in future. Will wonders never cease? However, he also claimed that his kind-heartedness or natural goodness could get into his way of success. I do fear that this may hinder in his ambition. Fortunately, he has also sent great news to me, saying that king Duncan is coming to our castle. This is music to my ears for it gives me an opportunity to strike. As the saying goes, strike while the iron is hot. What a perfect timing! Promising my husband to take charge of this matter, I shall proceed on with doing all the necessary preparations now. Bless me and my husband too. |
